How The Body Works

My feet walk through the rough, rugged, & raw,
My knees get weak from the things I saw.
My ass sits next to opportunity,
My thighs tighten as I move through my community.
My back carries my family’s name,
While my hips begin to crumble doing the same.
My stomach digests the stereotype,
While my kidneys flush out the prototype.
My lungs pump success,
While my heart beats to the beat of the best.
My veins bleed victory,
So when I’m cut I will leak the best of me.
My fingers write the devil’s contract to hire me,
While my hands grasp tightly to the angle’s diary.
My lips have kissed temptation plenty,
While my tongue speaks and touches many.
My nose smells the scent of glory,
While my ears hear the warrior’s story.
My mind dreams of my future as I lay in bed,
While my eyes see what lies ahead.
My body works non-stop from seven to seven,
While my soul rest until its time to walk with the angles in heaven.

  2. Ian, I am so glad to see you using your experiences and intellect to reach people in a new way. I appreciate you and always have. I hope that you'll allow me to use this poem specifically in a sermon that lends to it. I'll let you know if I come up with anything =) May the peace of God be with you, brother. Love.

  3. Ian - This is amazing! I love this... I will definitely share this with others - especially the students I work with at high schools and the Foster Girls Foundation. You have a gift and gifts are to be given so keep doing you! I'm glad I met you... Stay Amazingly Blessed... Sheila
