You know one of the most mind boggling things we ask ourselves is...WHO AM I?? We all are somebody, obviously, but who? Are you an angry person? Are you an great singer? Are you a winner? Are you a person who is scared to take risks? Are you a ladies man? Are you a powerful woman? These are questions, that on a daily basis, we ask ourselves and yet most of us take a whole life time trying to find the right answer. There are people who even go to a professional life coach to figure this simple yet complex question...WHO AM I?? The truth is no one can answer this question but YOU. Yes we live in a stereotypical world where if a young black man has tattoos with braids he is immediately categorized as someone who is a “thug” or a uneducated man. Yes, we live in a world where material things talk louder than words. And yes we live in a society that creates ways for people to carry out these judgmental ways. Nevertheless, that still has nothing to do with who you are. Your image or "brand" is what you want it to be. You are your own creator. You have full control over your image. Whatever it is you want to be or be known as is completely in your hands. Now, how people perceive you is not your problem that’s more like your predicament, that you have no control over. Yea I know it gets hard seeing our favorite celebrities on television and wanting to be like them, but you must understand they are just as unique as you they just discovered their uniqueness faster than you. Life is about who makes it not about who makes it the fastest. If you want to be a quiet shy person, be that person as long as you are comfortable. Because conforming to society or peers will only cost you happiness and will put a great down payment on pain.
Am I a survivor?
Should I explain or should I even bother?
Am I a nigga cuz I’m from the hood?
Or am I a black man trying to make it good?
Am I cocky because I think highly of myself?
Or am I a loner because I am all by myself?
Would I be considered a boy or a man?
My mom said I was a man, and she was my biggest fan.
Could you call me a looker?
I got the “baddest” girls in town looking, even the hooker.
Am I a child of Christ?
Even though I loose my faith as if it was stolen in a heist.
Am I a man of pain?
Because I never remember my umbrella during the rain.
Would I be considered an outcast?
I mean everyone lefty my side so fast.
Am I a man of principle?
Even though I rather have my life nice and simple.
Because I am from the hood am I an easy target?
Cuz you know they always following me when I’m shopping at Target.
Could you call me hateful?
Cuz I have a cold heart and my girl wasn’t faithful.
Am I motivated?
Even though all I want is to get my parents house renovated?
Would I be considered smart?
Even though school just wasn’t in my heart.
Am I winner?
Even though I lost a lot and have become a habitual sinner.
Could I be considered a hero?
Because I fought through the war and did not end up a zero?
Am I great?
Although I never get a whiff of the winner’s bait
Am I star?
Yet people have trouble recognizing me from a far.
Who am I, what am I ?
Will I ever know before I die?

Yo man, I read your two blogs. I really enjoyed reading them, it's good to know there are people thinking and sharing their wisdom. I agree with the 'Who Am I??' completely. I have a few comments on the one you wrote yesterday that I'd like your feedback on. I feel like we should live for today, but think for tomorrow. I think that if we don't think for tomorrow, we end up at a lost, because while it's true we can never be sure what will come,it is also true that what we do today has an effect on tomorrow. I think that living for today and not worrying about tomorrow leads people to desiring instantaneous gratification, which is a problem that people have today, and is actually the cause of the financial bind that America is experiencing. Also, I agree that a predicament is unsolvible (momentarily), but i feel that a predicament can be alleviated. I think that too often people who don't immediately see a way that they can help to make a situation better jump to the conclusion that they can't help make it better. I think that the more people we have trying to make a predicament less severe, the more people we'll have succeeding, and the more the predicament dissolves, the more it becomes a solvable problem. Let me know what you think about my opinions.
